Whale Rider
I named my font whale rider because when I was first making it, it kind of reminded me of a whale or a submarine.
All of my dates are significant moments in history related to aliens and 2012. My friend said that my font reminded her of aliens, so I decided to make my posters go with this story a guy at work made up: according to him, humans are actually being grown by shape-shifting aliens who look like reptiles. They are tending humans in the same way that farmers tend to their crops. December 21, 2012 is the date when they are going to harvest their crops. They're going to drink the blood of all the humans who don't have love in their hearts (the story started out while talking about politicians and other horrible people). I picked dates that I thought would best relate to this story. I picked alien sightings and tragic moments in history.

there is no class next week, sept. 29, so this assignment is for the following week, oct. 6.
1. please revise your five most successful (according to your own opinion or to the class's feedback) date composition posters. add ONE element to EACH of the revised posters: a 2-5 sentence paragraph describing the date's significance.
2. four of the posters are to be presented as before: cropped to 10"x16". the fifth must be scaled to double that size: 20"x32".

- you may use any typeface you like for the added paragraph
- consider carefully the shape, the size and the position of the new text, especially in relation to what was there already

- it should go without saying that this fifth should be your favorite, with the most potential to 'work' at a larger size
- you may assemble the larger poster from four 10"x16" sheets if you like, or print it full size at a print shop such as east side copy (15 E. 13 st., between 5th ave. and university pl.)

- the ONLY forms allowed on this poster are characters from your pixel font
- you may use color or black & white
- consider: scale, variety, contrast, space, alignment, etc.

- make all 26 letters- all upper case, all lower case, or any combination of the two
- make the numerals 0-9
- each character must be maximum 16 'pixels' high
- bonus: draw/print a word in your typeface
- make it original!

1. check your email for the invitation to join the blog, and join! (if needed, create a blogger account.) once you have joined you should appear in the contributor list in the sidebar. then create and publish a post with just the word 'hello' and your name for the title. i.e. "hello noah".
2. bring to class a collection of minimum 20 examples of found typography you like.
sources: magazines, books, websites (print out please), ephemera such as postcards or business cards, packaging, shoot and print out photos of found lettering, etc. try to find things with different scales of type. make sure what you find is disposable, because we will be using it in class.
