I hope class yesterday illuminated our alphabet a little for you!
You assignment for this week is to create a 'pixel' typeface (i.e. one made of small squares). I want all 26 letters- upper OR lowercase, but not both- and the numerals 0-9.
Details:
- each 'pixel' must be the same size
- the pixels must be aligned to a grid
- each letter may be no more than 16 pixels high
- the work should be presented printed out
- use the examples on the handout sheet I gave for reference to various ways of solving this problem
- work in Adobe Illustrator and have the 'View>Show Grid' and 'View>Snap to Grid' options turned on (you'll find that many characters will have similar elements, and you can easily copy and paste in Illustrator)
- Visit dafont.com and take a look at the pixel typefaces there
Also, please try to get Thinking with Type by next week, as we will be going over it a bit in class and I will assign readings.
Cheers!
